Before launch: preserve what matters
If you are replacing a site, inventory existing valuable URLs, inbound links and essential customer journeys. Map old pages to the most relevant new destinations before changing addresses. Preserve useful content and important business information. A launch should not accidentally remove the page a returning customer or search visitor expected to find.
Check the public version
Review the actual public hostname over HTTPS. Confirm key pages return the intended content, links point to production destinations and private preview controls are removed only from public content. Keep administrative surfaces protected. Check that page titles, descriptions and canonical URLs describe the final pages rather than a staging environment.
Give crawlers a coherent route
Publish a sitemap containing the canonical public pages you want discovered. Reference it in robots.txt and ensure the rules do not block the important content. A sitemap is a discovery aid, not a promise of indexing. Ordinary internal links remain essential for users and for understanding how the pages relate.
Test the conversion path honestly
Check phone links, email links, forms and booking routes using the intended devices. A form must not display success unless its actual delivery step succeeds. If a button opens an email draft, say so. Ensure errors are understandable and the visitor has a working alternative contact method. Confirm who receives enquiries before advertising the channel.
After launch: inspect and monitor
Use Search Console verification and URL inspection where available. Submit the sitemap and watch for coverage changes, unexpected errors or redirect failures. Monitor contact delivery and major page templates. Keep a record of the release date so later changes can be interpreted in context, without assuming every movement was caused by the launch.
A launch is a beginning
Continue improving useful content, documenting expertise and reviewing customer questions. Technical readiness makes discovery possible, but it does not establish reputation overnight. Consistent delivery and relevant evidence take time. Our SEO audit and strategy service can help turn the post-launch findings into a practical roadmap.
